Bob got me lost today. We took a wrong turn – we were told we could take a bike trail to a certain place then turn, but I think we got on the wrong trail. We went south instead of east, ended up about 10 miles off course. When we finally met up with the van we found out we were the last ones on the road and that the route ahead had also changed. I guess that’s what happens when you start out from the hotel and not the official start at the campground. With new maps in hand, we headed out on the correct route to checkpoint – another forgettable place in front of a store. We kept riding until we found a small cafe, hung out there awhile and told our story to the locals. It was only 12 more miles to camp.
Our camp was a lovely space, big trees, lots of room to spread out our tents, although I did see the campground maintenance guy do a bunch of spraying by our tents for biting ants. There was also a big community room – air conditioned – where dinner would be. The first item on the agenda was to get into the pool where I happily floated on “noodles,” Bob tried to scare me by jumping in right next to my head while I was blissfully floating. Everyone got a great chuckle out of that. Dinner was good, put together and served by the more permanent residents in camp. After dinner there was time to walk the couple of little trails and sit around the pool and talk.
