Practically everyone was at the Golden Corral for breakfast before it opened at 6:30. They got the food out as quickly as possible and we grabbed it as soon as it appeared – we’re such pigs. We were on the road at 7:00 a.m. An uneventful day of riding except for one small section of extremely bad road. Checkpoint was close to the water, we played hide and seek with Mark’s helmet and I played weeble in Rochell’s rocking chair. Rode with Dave for awhile and listened to his assessment of the Ride and riders. We went to Subway for lunch where Dave proclaimed me the “best broad” on the trip.
We rode direct to the hotel and got our rooms – right on the Swannee River. Since it was going to be a layover day and I still didn’t feel 100 percent, I wanted a room to take refuge in. Turned out to be a good plan, especially after seeing the campground – lots of sand and absolutely nothing to do. We avoided it for the rest of our stay, eating most of our meals across the street. Wine was also made very accessible with a liquor store next to the restaurant, so we drank lots of wine both nights – even Keri had 4 glasses the first day.
On our day off we rested, did laundry, and got ready for our last days of riding. For dinner, our hotel clerk suggested we go down the road to a seafood restaurant. We decided to ride our bikes the two miles and on the way this big dog ran out after me growling and barking – scared me half to death. In hindsight, I think maybe he was trying to warn us. The food was horrible! I had seafood fettucine with sauce so gloppy I couldn’t eat it – yuk!
